Ben Roethlisberger To Restructure, Expects 2021 To Be Final Season

Jan 28, 2021 5:33 PM

Ben Roethlisberger is ready and willing to what will be necessary to lower his $41.25 million cap hit for the 2021 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“I want to do everything I can and made that very clear to them from the very beginning that it was my idea to basically help the team however I can this year,” Roethlisberger said. “I don’t care about my pay at all this year.”

Roethlisberger also indicated he views 2021 as likely his last season in the NFL.

“I am pretty sure I want to go one more year [because] I think I can do it and give us a real chance and winning,” Roethlisberger said.

Colts Want 'Veteran Vision' At Quarterback

Jan 28, 2021 8:24 AM

Jim Irsay has an idea of what the Indianapolis Colts need at quarterback this offseason.

"The type of team we have, it would really benefit us most if we could have someone who can come in and play at a high level, with a veteran vision," Irsay said.

The Colts are looking for a quarterback once again after Philip Rivers announced his retirement earlier this month.

Source: Aaron Rodgers Wants New Contract

Jan 26, 2021 10:11 PM

Aaron Rodgers wants a new contract, according to a source.

The desire for a new deal may have been why Rodgers appeared to send a message publicly following the Green Bay Packers' loss in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday.

Expected to win the 2020 NFL MVP award, Rodgers will make $22.35 million in 2021, $25.5 million in 2022, and $25.5 million in 2023.

Rodgers has a cap number in excess of $37 million for 2021, but a new contract easily could reduce it.

Ravens, Lamar Jackson To Discuss New Contract

Jan 26, 2021 8:39 AM

Eric DeCosta says the Baltimore Ravens could reach a long-term contract extension with Lamar Jackson this offseason.

The two sides are expected to speak within the next 10 days.

Jackson just completed his third season, which is when Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson each received their huge deals.

Entering the final year of his rookie deal, Jackson is scheduled to earn $1.77 million this upcoming season.

"[He] certainly deserves a contract," DeCosta said. "He has played phenomenal football over the last couple of years. My intention is to keep him in Baltimore for many, many years."

The Baltimore Ravens are releasing Mark Ingram, according to sources.

Ingram, 31, was a healthy scratch for four of the Ravens' final five contests this season, including both playoff games.

The move will create $5 million in cap space for Baltimore.

Ingram, a first-round pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2011, spent his first eight seasons there. He signed a three-year, $15 million deal with Baltimore in 2019.

Jared Veldheer Signs With Packers Following Playoff Game With Colts

Jan 11, 2021 8:27 PM

Jared Veldheer started at left tackle for the Indianapolis Colts in their Wildcard game at the Buffalo Bills and has signed with the Green Bay Packers.

Veldheer will become the first player in NFL history to play postseason games for two different playoff teams in the same season.

Veldheer is allowed to sign with Green Bay because he was on the Colts' practice squad and was elevated only for the Colts' playoff game and not signed to the 53-man roster.

The Packers lost left tackle David Bakhtiari to a torn ACL in practice leading up to the regular season finale.

Bill Belichick Bristles At Report Cam Newton Won't Return To Patriots

Jan 4, 2021 12:38 PM

After Sunday's game Bill Belichick bristled when asked about a report that Cam Newton wouldn't return to the New England Patriots next season.

Belichick had the following exchange with a reporter.

Question: There was a report on ESPN today there's an understanding between you and Cam Newton that you'll be going in different directions this offseason. Is there an understanding this was Cam's final game?

Answer: Is that another one of your anonymous reports?

Question: That was from Adam Schefter this morning.

Answer: I don't think that's what Adam said. You should talk to Adam about that then. Great question, thank you.

Newton separately was asked, without reference to the report, whether he anticipates returning.

"Listen, I have my desires," Newton said. "I know where my heart's at. I know the things, who I am. But as far as that, I can't really speak on it right now. But just my whole time here in New England has been a blessing. I've learned so much about myself, about great teammates, unbelievable coaching. Yeah, so I just see how it goes . ... from there."
